Education at GBRAR

The Greater Baton Rouge Association of REALTORS® greatly valuse professional education

 

Nearly all classes at GBRAR are free to Association members

IdeasFromBookIllustration375x250Because GBRAR so greatly values professional education nearly all classes at GBRAR are free to Association members. Members will have multiple opportunities yearly to meet all National Association of REALTORS®, Louisiana REALTORS®, Louisiana Real Estate Commission, and any locally education requirements. 

Additionally, GBRAR has a very active Education Committee that works diligently to bring special education opportunities to members. These classes enrich member's professional lives, providing innovative business strategies, new technology training, motivational speakers, and much more. Other committees also frequently host educational events, including panel and round table discussions. 


Tracking Your Courses

The GBRAR is only able to track courses that you have taken from GBRAR. If you have taken courses from another vendor (online, private provider, etc), you will need to contact that vendor directly. You may always view the history of all education classes that you have completed with GBRAR though our Internet Member Services. Simply login to your account and select "Education History" under the section labelled "Other Services." You can also view your history of LREC approved classes online at http://www.lrec.state.la.us.

For Existing Members

LREC Continuing Education Requirements*

Salesperson Mandatory Topic - Insurance Awareness and Contract Timelines (this course must be taken by BOTH salespersons and brokers)

2017 Broker Mandatory - Broker Responsibility (this course must be taken by all brokers (associate and individual) in a LIVE CLASSROOM FORMAT)

In 2017, as part of the annual continuing education, all brokers and salespersons are required to complete the mandatory course titled, Insurance Awareness and Contract Timelines - 2017 Mandatory. In addition, the LREC is requiring all brokers to complete a separate mandatory course titled, Broker Responsibility - 2017 Broker Mandatory. The 2017 Broker mandatory course will only be offered in a live classroom format.

Mandatory courses must be completed through an approved real estate school or vendor by December 31, 2017, as part of the twelve (12) hour continuing education requirement for license renewal.

These courses should not be confused with similar courses of the same name. Be specific and request a 2017 mandatory topic course.

If you are a new licensee, please remember that completion of the 45-hour post-license curriculum does not relieve you from completing the mandatory topic course(s).

 *Note that the LREC sets the requirements for all real estate licensees, and all licensess must meet LREC requirements, including annual education hours, to maintain active sales licenses. GBRAR's education tracking does not superceed the LREC education requirements or records.  

 

NAR Ethics Training

NAR requires every member to complete two and a half (2.5) hours of training on the Code of Ethics every 2 years. 
GBRAR offers the required Ethics classes and members can camplete the Ethics class online through NAR. 

For New Members*

GBRAR Indoctrination & Structural Measurement

These classes are required of every new member of GBRAR and GBR MLS. These classes are now available online, and the link to the classes will be emailed to new members when they complete the GBRAR membership application and pay their membership dues.

LREC Mandatory Topic

The Louisiana Real Estate Commission (LREC) requires every licensee to complete 12 hours of continuing education every year. Four (4) hours are in a REQUIED subject that changes yearly and the remaining hours are elective.
In 2017, as part of the annual continuing education, all brokers and salespersons are required to complete the mandatory course titled, Insurance Awareness and Contract Timelines - 2017 Mandatory. Cancellation and Class Attendance Policy

Notice of registration cancellation must be provided 24 hours before the start time of the class to avoid a $25 no-show fee. You must arrive prior to the class start time, and attend while class is in session. Those who fail to arrive on time or attend will forfeit the class fee and will not receive continuing education credit.

The 2014 LREC required class is titled "2014 Mandatory Topic"

This year the mandatory topic will consist of four one-hour subject areas.  Note that the mandatory topic remains one course despite the various subject areas that will be covered.  It is not four separate mandatory topics from which to choose.

  • Agency and Brokerage
  • Environmental Hazards
  • Technology
  • Practical Finance

This 4-hour course must be completed through an approved real estate school or vendor by December 31, 2014, as part of the twelve (12) hour continuing education requirement for license renewal.

NAR Quadrennial Ethics Training

NAR requires every member to complete two and a half (2.5) hours of training on the Code of Ethics every 4-years. 
GBRAR offers the required Ethics classes and members can camplete the Ethics class online through NAR.

For New Members

Our members often have access to discount codes for some of these vendors. Please check the MLS home page for updated discount code information. 

Please note: Continuing Education Certificated and Education Tracking is not available from GBRAR on any online course. They are all offered under their own LREC Education Vendor Numbers. You will need to send a copy of the course completion certificate to GBRAR to have courses completed through online vendors credited to your Association account. If you need assistance with a certificate or documentation of completion for an online course you should contact the vendor directly.

About Career WebSchool

Career WebSchool is proud to offer online real estate courses. We design and develop Real Estate courses for delivery on computer. Our courses were the first courses on computer approved for real estate licensing in any state. They set the standard for computer-based instruction courses nationwide. Career WebSchool is approved by state regulatory agencies (Real Estate Boards and/or Real Estate Departments) across the country to offer courses to the public.

Our Mission

The mission of Career WebSchool is to provide high-quality distance education courses to Real Estate trainees and licensees in support of federal and state-mandated education programs for licensure and ongoing professional competency.

Licensing courses are offered to the general public to satisfy the educational requirements for licensure by the appropriate jurisdictions. The content coverage is guided by state licensing requirements and designed to provide a quality educational preparation for licensed activities in the Real Estate business. The primary focus is on providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to protect the public in its dealings with Real Estate professionals. The course is designed to take a student with no background knowledge of the subject to a level of knowledge that is acceptable to operate in a professional manner in the industry. To meet these overall objectives, the course of study will provide (among others):

  •     a thorough understanding of the legal underpinnings of Real Estate practice and a working knowledge of specific relevant laws and regulations
  •     a working knowledge of the principles and practice necessary to engage in the Real Estate business
  •     an appreciation for and a thorough knowledge of the responsibilities owed to customers, clients and other professionals in the Real Estate business

Continuing education courses are offered to licensees to enhance their professionalism, thereby fostering the protection of the public, by:

  •     acquiring new knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the conduct of their duties
  •     refreshing their knowledge of core principles and practices
  •     advancing their knowledge of selected advanced topics
  •     acquiring updated knowledge of content topics that change over time

The acquisition of this information is provided in the context of an educational methodology that insures that the material is:

  •     understood at a conceptual level
  •     able to be used in a fluent manner by the learner
  •     able to be applied to practical situations

Finally, each online real estate course is designed to document the attainment of mastery is and evaluated objectively and quantitatively to insure that transfer of knowledge actually occurs.
